From post-it
to product in
12 weeks.

When legacy meets lean.

What happens when a 130-year-old company adopts a startup mindset?

Skip began as a scribble on a sticky note. As Lead Innovation Designer, I helped turn that early idea into a mobile ordering and payments platform that launched in just 12 weeks, complete with a working MVP, a cohesive brand, and real customers on day one.

We moved fast. Starting with SMS-based prototypes, we tested assumptions, mapped service flows, and designed the full product experience end-to-end. The result was one of Australia’s first mobile commerce success stories, scaled nationwide and eventually generating over $30M in annual recurring revenue.

Skip showed what was possible when enterprise resources met startup speed. More than a product, it was a shift in mindset, and working proof that great design can unlock entirely new business models inside a legacy organisation.

Role

Innovation Design Lead
Led the end-to-end design process, from opportunity discovery to launch.

Collaborated with IDEO as part of Sensis’s internal innovation team to prototype, validate, and deliver the first version of Skip.

Problem

Sensis was in decline, disrupted by the shift from print directories to digital.

The business faced falling revenue,
long product cycles, and low digital engagement.

Design challenge

Reimagine local search and everyday transactions to be fast, useful, and scalable by connecting customers and small businesses through a frictionless mobile experience.

Outcomes

Scaled to over $30M in annual recurring revenue by 2024

Achieved nationwide rollout and adoption across Australia

Sustained 91% repeat usage among active customers

Spun out of Sensis as an independent company

Generated $676 in revenue from early prototype tests
